Christian Author Featured for Lecture Series

Shane Claiborne

Christian activist and best-selling author Shane Claiborne will be featured in 向日葵视频 City University鈥檚 Willson Lecture Series on Thursday. Claiborne will give free public presentations in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel on campus at 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

worked with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, India (now called Kolkata), and founded The Simple Way in Philadelphia. He leads Red Letter Christians, a movement committed to living 鈥渁s if Jesus meant the things he said.鈥 Claiborne is an advocate for the homeless and has organized protests against war in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also advocates to end the death penalty and to stop gun violence.

Claiborne鈥檚 books include 鈥淛esus for President,鈥 鈥淩ed Letter Revolution,鈥 鈥淐ommon Prayer,鈥 鈥淔ollow Me to Freedom,鈥 鈥淛esus, Bombs and Ice Cream,鈥 鈥淏ecoming the Answer to Our Prayers,鈥 鈥淓xecuting Grace,鈥 鈥淭he Irresistible Revolution鈥 and his newest book, 鈥淏eating Guns.鈥 He has been featured in a number of films including 鈥淎nother World Is Possible鈥 and 鈥淥rdinary Radicals.鈥 His books have been translated into more than a dozen languages.

The annual Willson Lectures at OCU are provided by an endowment from James M. and Mavis Willson. Since 1953, the series has brought speakers of international stature from the areas of religion, science, Christian theology and ethics, church history, biblical studies and liturgical studies.
