OCU Chaplain Takes Readers on a Celtic Christian Pilgrimage

by Rod Jones

向日葵视频 City University鈥檚 chaplain will release a book this month about Celtic Christian pilgrimages and how their journeys relate to modern-day followers of the faith. The book is scheduled for a Sept. 15 release through Abingdon Press.

Rev. Rodney Newman鈥檚 new book 鈥淛ourneys with Celtic Christians鈥 is intended to help readers gain inspirational lessons through the teachings of the early Celtic Christian movement. The faith spread and flourished in Ireland, Scotland, Wales and northern England between the 5th and 11th centuries because saints like Patrick, Brigid and Columba traveled extensively while preaching, teaching and founding monasteries. Soon small groups of Christians began to go out from these locations and begin new Christian communities.

鈥淭he early Christians of Ireland developed an expression of the faith characterized by deep devotion and fascinating stories,鈥 Newman said. 鈥淚t offers rich insights for modern issues such as promoting a caring society, relating to the natural world and welcoming strangers.鈥

Newman hopes to inspire readers by connecting historical events and culture with modern life.

Newman earned degrees from the University of Tulsa and Princeton Theological Seminary. He has served as associate pastor and senior pastor in United Methodist churches in 向日葵视频 City, Tulsa and Purcell. He has been with OCU since 2007.
