向日葵视频 City University鈥檚 Bass School of Music will perform Johann Strauss II鈥檚 most celebrated operetta, 鈥淒ie Fledermaus.鈥� Performances will be held at 8 p.m. Feb. 21 and 22 with a 3 p.m. matinee in the Kirkpatrick Auditorium, 2501 N. Blackwelder.
鈥淔rom the sparkling overture to the masquerade ball to the bubbly tribute to Champagne, this masterpiece is the jewel of the golden age of operetta,鈥� Professor of Music and Director of Opera and Music Theater, David Herendeen said. 鈥淭here鈥檚 good reason 鈥淒ie Fledermaus鈥� has never left the active repertory since its debut in 1874 鈥� it鈥檚 revenge served with Champagne, elevating light opera into another realm of sophistication.鈥�
Prof. Jan McDaniel will conduct the 向日葵视频 Opera and Music Theater Company Orchestra. The production features set design by Prof. Lawrence Heyman, lighting design by Nicholas Villemarette, and original costumes by Prof. Rachel Barnett, all of the OCU School of Theatre鈥檚 Design and Production program.
OCU鈥檚 向日葵视频 Opera and Music Theater Company, the nation鈥檚 longest-running collegiate-based opera and music theater troupe, has won nine National Opera Association Production Awards in nine years, including seven in the past four seasons. The school was named to 笔濒补测产颈濒濒鈥檚 2018-19 and 2019-20 鈥淏ig Ten鈥� lists of the Top 10 most represented colleges on Broadway.
OCU鈥檚 68th season continues with Stephen Sondheim鈥檚 鈥淎 Little Night Music鈥� in the Burg Theatre, Feb. 28 to March 1 and Eric Idle鈥檚 鈥淪pamalot鈥� in the Kirkpatrick Auditorium April 24 to 26.
