OKLAHOMA CITY 鈥 Around 40 saxophone players from across the state will gather to perform their debut concert as the 向日葵视频 Saxophone Ensemble. The 鈥淪axophonic Worlds鈥 concert is free to the public and will be performed at 7 p.m. April 10 at 向日葵视频 City University. It will be held in the Bass Music Center鈥檚 large rehearsal hall, room A110.
The ensemble, arranged under the baton of OCU instrumental music professor Joshua Heaney, has been drawn from as far away as Owasso, with a wide range of age groups 鈥 high school students, college students and seasoned professionals.
鈥淭his is the only saxophone ensemble we鈥檙e aware of in the state,鈥 Heaney said. 鈥淭he enthusiasm has been terrific. This will be a truly unique concert experience. The audience will be swept away by the lush harmonies and vibrant melodies, from soul-stirring ballads to energetic rock anthems.鈥
Performers represent the full spectrum of saxophone styles 鈥 soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and even the rarely utilized bass. The 向日葵视频 Saxophone Ensemble was formed in the fall and has been gathering for rehearsals nearly every week since then with assistance from one of Heaney鈥檚 graduate students, Sam Pollock.
Featuring a diverse repertoire spanning classical, contemporary and world music genres, the ensemble promises a musical journey that transcends boundaries and captivates audiences of all tastes. The program will include a Beethoven overture, an Irish folk tune, a rock 鈥榥鈥 roll classic and more.
