Prerequisite Courses*: 8 hours

  • MATH 1303 Intermediate Algebra** 3 
  • MATH 1503 College Algebra*** 3 
  • MATH 1602 Trigonometry** 2

Major Requirements: 75-80 hours

Required Mathematics Courses: 27 hours

  • MATH 2004 Calculus and Analytic Geometry I
  • MATH 2104 Calculus and Analytic Geometry II
  • MATH 2403 Foundations of Mathematics
  • MATH 3003 Linear Algebra
  • MATH 3103 Algebraic Structures I
  • MATH 3404 Calculus and Analytic Geometry III
  • MATH 3603 Real Analysis I
  • MATH 4993 Capstone

Electives in Mathematics: 15 hours

All mathematics education majors must take the five elective courses listed below.

  • MATH 3203 Probability and Statistics I
  • MATH 3303 Ordinary Differential Equations
  • MATH 3503 Discrete Mathematics
  • MATH 3703 Numerical Methods
  • MATH 4703 Advanced Geometry

Additional Elective Requirement: 3(4) hours

  • Any additional MATH course 3000-LEVEL or above
  • Any Computer Science (CSCI) course
  • Any Physics (PHYS) course

* Preparatory or prerequisite courses do not count toward degree requirements 
** Waived upon completion of more advanced mathematics courses. 
*** Required in the general education curriculum but waived upon completion of a more advanced mathematics course.

Competency Requirements for Math Education: 3 hours

All mathematics/education double majors must complete the Mathematics Major Exit Exam and the Capstone

  • EDUC 3103 Human Development
  • EDUC 3113 Psychology and Assessment of Learning
  • EDUC 3213 Students with Exceptionalities
  • EDUC 4333 Methods of Teaching Mathematics
  • EDUC 4413 Technology in the Classroom
  • EDUC 4513 Classroom Management
  • EDUC 4663 Student Teaching Seminar
  • EDUC 4739 Student Teaching Secondary

Note: All Education majors, including transfer students with an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree, are required by the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Office of Educational Quality and Accreditation (OEQA) to complete at least 2 courses in a single foreign language as part of their degree requirements.
