Student Conduct Process FAQs - Faculty

The student conduct process is an important tool in a student’s education and is not intended to be punitive or adversarial.  Students engaged in the process learn to increase their self-awareness as it relates to the impact of their behavior on themselves and others. 

Students who are found responsible for violations are offered an opportunity to reconcile with the academic community and learn from their mistakes.   Faculty and staff are encouraged to forward complaints without fear of retaliation and full knowledge that they will be supported by Student Conduct Administrators.

After an incident students participate in an administrative hearing. This is the time for the Student Code of Conduct Administrator to gather facts from the accused student to share their version of the incident. Your Student Code of Conduct Administrator(s) will represent the OKCU community. If you deny responsibility, your Student Code of Conduct Administrator(s) will determine if you are, in fact, responsible. If it is determined you are responsible for a violation, you and your Student Code of Conduct Administrator may enter into a negotiated settlement.  We hope you take advantage of the opportunity afforded to students by OKCU to participate in the Student Conduct process.

Administrator and the accused student regarding violations of the Student Code of Conduct and agreed upon sanctions.  Both the Accused Student and the Student Code of Conduct Administrator must agree to the settlement in writing for the decision to be valid.  The negotiated settlement document will be available for pick up in the Dean of Student’s Office and must be signed by the student.  The student may retain a copy of the negotiated settlement for their records.

It is hard to say what your sanctions will be as the response to a violation depends upon the facts of the incident; however, the followingsanctions may be imposed upon any student found to have violated the Student Code of Conduct: warning, probation, loss of privileges, fines, restitution, discretionary sanctions (work assignments, essays, service to the University, etc.), University housing suspension or expulsion, University suspension or expulsion, revocation of admission and/or degree, withholding degree.  More than one of the sanctions listed above may be imposed for any single violation.

Any member of the campus community may file a complaint against a student for potential violation of the Student Code of Conduct.  Faculty and staff making a complaint may contact OCUPD for an incident report or forward an email to a Student Conduct Administrator that describes the incident in question.  A Student Conduct Administrator may make contact to learn more about the complaint.
