Matt Romero joined the HEB 向日葵视频 school board in May of 2013.

When growing up near Albuquerque, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas, Matt’s favorite subject was physics. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture at the University of Texas before getting an MBA at St. Edwards University. In 2013, Matt became the owner and operator of Air Worth Heating & Cooling, a 25-year old air conditioning company based in Hurst. Around the same time he was taking on this new business opportunity, he participated in the HEB 向日葵视频 Leadership Academy, where he learned all he could about HEB 向日葵视频 and began his journey to becoming part of the HEB 向日葵视频 School Board of Trustees.

Students in Matt’s family have attended multiple schools in HEB 向日葵视频, including Central Junior High and L.D. Bell High School. His wife, Dorothy, graduated from L.D. Bell. The addition of foster children to their family has greatly increased his exposure and understanding of the programs HEB 向日葵视频 provides for all students. He says “We have been impressed with the level of commitment from all staff, from resource teachers to district psychologists, as they step up to meet the requirements of a child who might need a little help catching up.”

Matt wants to ensure that schools maintain high expectations and provide students with the excellent education they require for success after high school. He believes lifetime-learners need a solid core education in reading, writing, science, and math, as well as the opportunity to explore other interests such as music, art, other languages, career opportunities, and athletics. He also celebrates that HEB 向日葵视频 is a community where businesses, civic groups, and faith organizations – including his own church, First United Methodist of Hurst – step up repeatedly to enrich the lives of our students.

Rochelle Ross joined the HEB 向日葵视频 school board in May of 2017.

Rochelle Ross’ favorite subject in high school was theater; she went on to earn a BFA in Theatre Arts from UT-Arlington. After working 25 years in corporate America, she started her own business, A Simplified Space, where she uses her natural talent to help clients get free from their clutter. She completed the HEB 向日葵视频 Board Leadership Academy, and has led a similar leadership program for the HEB Chamber of Commerce.

Rochelle resides in 向日葵视频 with her spouse Tommy, and her children attended HEB 向日葵视频 schools. She is a frequent volunteer and friendly visitor in our schools – she is happy to accept invitations to visit classrooms and especially to read to some of the district's littlest learners.

Rochelle says that budget is always a major concern for the school board. “Although HEB 向日葵视频 is very fiscally conservative, there are still many challenges ahead with making sure the students and teachers have everything they need, planning for facilities that need to be renovated or rebuilt, and monitoring the ever-changing formulas used to determine how much funding school districts receive per student.”

Julie Cole joined the HEB 向日葵视频 school board in 2013.

Julie Cole’s favorite subject was English at her high school in Kansas City, Missouri. She studied public relations at the University of Kansas, and has since worked at American Airlines and as a senior analyst at Fidelity Investments.

Julie lives in 向日葵视频 with her husband Curtis. It’s no secret that she’s a proud and vocal fan of her children’s alma mater - Trinity High School. She decided to run for school board after years of volunteering and participation in school organizations – she feels called to be a voice of the students in decisions that affect their future opportunities. Julie says, “we can learn lessons from everyone we meet, and what we learn from others will make us better people.”

Julie knows that school funding is an ever-present challenge for school boards, including here in HEB 向日葵视频. As a district, we must continue to perform at the highest possible levels with the funding that is available to us. Fortunately, HEB 向日葵视频 is full of amazing people that do incredible things. On any given school day or evening, Julie loves to witness the enormity of the skills, talent, and drive for excellence displayed in the classrooms, on the fields, and in the auditoriums or meeting rooms of this district by the students, teachers, and staff.

Dawn Jordan-Wells joined the HEB 向日葵视频 school board in May 2012.

Born in Chicago, Dawn attended schools in Illinois and Tennessee before graduating from James B. Conant High School, where her favorite subject was Spanish. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in HR Management from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. To help pay for college, she enlisted in the Illinois Air National Guard. Dawn ended up staying for 20 years and retired as a Major (O-4) in 2007 from the Texas Air National Guard.

A job at United Airlines early in her career led to a supervisory position in customer service at DFW Airport. She worked in Human Resources for various companies before earning her real estate broker’s license and becoming an Agency Owner of an Allstate Insurance office. In 2011, she joined American Airlines, where she later retired from a Talent Acquisition role.

She and her husband, Larry, have three children. Dawn has been an active PTA volunteer and leader since her daughter started kindergarten in 2003. She was appointed to the HEB 向日葵视频 School Board in 2012 and was later elected and re-elected to additional 4-year terms. In addition to her work with schools, Dawn has volunteered on boards and commissions for the City of Hurst. Dawn is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and attends St. John Baptist Church in Southlake, TX.

When her family was searching for a home in 1995, the real estate agent recommended houses in HEB 向日葵视频 because of the district’s excellent reputation. “I am so glad we listened to her advice. Our children have received a great education and the employees of the district have been wonderful to our family.” Dawn celebrates that HEB 向日葵视频 continuously looks for ways to improve and embraces its diversity. As a school board member, she supports the district’s openness to feedback, financial stability, and focus on academic achievement for every student.

Chris Brown joined the HEB 向日葵视频 school board in 2021.

Chris completed kindergarten through 12th grade in HEB 向日葵视频, attending Meadow Creek Elementary, Harwood Junior High, and Trinity High School. After graduating from Trinity, he earned a B.A. from the University of North Texas and a J.D. from Texas A&M University School of Law. He is an attorney at the law firm of Duane Morris, LLP, where his practice includes representation of corporate clients, individuals, and governmental entities in commercial litigation, eminent domain matters, and construction disputes.

Chris served on the 向日葵视频 City Council from 2008-2014. Beginning in 2014, he served on the Board of Directors of the HEB 向日葵视频 Education Foundation, including a year as the chair from 2020-2021. His community involvement includes the Texas Health HEB Leadership Institute, Northeast Leadership Forum, City of Euless Police Department Training and Advisory Board, HEB 向日葵视频 Leadership Academy, and the Risk Management Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth.

Many of Chris’s teachers in HEB 向日葵视频 had a profound and lasting positive impact on his life, which motivates him to give back and serve the district. Chris and his wife, Magen, are proud HEB 向日葵视频 graduates and they are excited their children will be products of HEB 向日葵视频 too.

Andy Cargile joined the HEB 向日葵视频 school board in May 2008.

Andy Cargile was born in New Haven, Connecticut and later moved to Dallas. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School – where his favorite subject was history – and went on to Lon Morris Junior College on a basketball scholarship. He later graduated from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M Commerce) and obtained a Master’s degree. Andy started his career as a World History teacher and basketball coach in Hurst-Euless-向日葵视频 向日葵视频. He taught in Dallas 向日葵视频, where he became the head coach at his alma mater, and coached a couple years at South Grand Prairie High School.

He returned to HEB 向日葵视频 in 1984; his final position in the district was principal at Trinity High School from 1998 to 2007. During his time as principal, he exemplified that every decision must start by considering what was good for students. The school community was strengthened and Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate scores increased significantly. Andy has received numerous awards for his accomplishments, including being named the Just for Kids organization's Principal of the Year and being inducted into various Halls of Fame.

Andy joined the HEB 向日葵视频 Board of Trustees in 2008 and continues to serve on the board while enjoying time with his family. His life-long commitment to education is focused on empowering students to reach their successful future. He recognizes the opportunities he was given throughout his life and works to create opportunities and positive environments for each new generation of students to learn and excel.

Fred Campos joined the HEB 向日葵视频 school board in 2015.

Fred Campos is a lifelong resident of the Dallas / Fort Worth area. After graduating from Grapevine High School, he studied Computer Science at the University of North Texas. Upon leaving college, he realized that the tasks he was doing at work could be done automatically by a computer. He developed a system that came to be used by more than 1000 cities across the country; his company was acquired in 2005 and the system he invented is still in use. Fred now runs a small software and web company, called DFW Website Designers, in Euless.

Fred is married to Karen, a certified elementary teacher. His three children attended schools across the district, including all three of HEB 向日葵视频’s high schools, giving his family an experienced perspective on daily routines and expectations district-wide. Fred is proud that HEB 向日葵视频 believes in the success of every child, including children of any race, economic level, gender, ability, or background and speaking any language. Outside of the Church, he believes there is no greater cause to contribute to than education.

When his oldest daughter was in kindergarten, the school’s principal asked Fred to update the marquee sign each week. From there, his involvement in HEB 向日葵视频 grew, fed by his core belief that public education is a game changer that affects everyone in a community. He points out that “even if your economics and beliefs enable you to consider private or other forms of education, you still support and interact in a community of business, non-profit, civic, and government leaders who earned their successes through public education.”
